Keeping in touch over text and Instagram posts, Duterte and Kempner started recording together for fun in 2018, resulting with what would become "Sand Angel", the seductive slow-burner that convinced the pair to write an album together.

Reconvening in January 2020, the duo packed the entirety of Duterte’s recording equipment into two cars and headed to a rental house in Topanga, CA. In this space Kempner and Duterte hybridized their individual song-writing talents, producing a collection that slips between moods with ease and showcases their lyrical prowess. Arriving with almost no songs written and no solid plan, they finished the 10 songs that make up Doomin’ Sun after two short weeks. That much work in so little time may sound exhausting, but it wasn’t, it was blissful and freeing.

There was a lot of pain that went into the record, especially around themes of queerness and climate change inspired by the red skies and wildfires subsuming Australia at the time. When Kempner and Duterte look back on those weeks, what they remember first is shortness of breath and the inability to track vocal takes without falling to the floor howling. The new release, which finds the group recruiting Lee Smith (The Cribs, Pulled Apart By Horses) on mixing duties, arrives just under a year after their debut LP, 3D Routine, capping off what has been an obviously tumultuous, but remarkably prolific year for the band. With any prospect of live shows decimated, the group, led by songwriter, Dan Hyndman, has found the time to release two EPs (Great Artisanal Formats and Yellow Sticker Hour) and now a duo of full-length albums.

Mush resent their own sonic idiosyncrasy. It’s a sound that blurs the lines of abstract surrealism, existentialism and social commentary; utilising guitars as tools in 2020 to stave off malaise whilst simultaneously commenting on the nation’s ability to fall into such dire straits. It’s a sensory overload of wiry tones that zig- zag between punk, prog and sardonic-funk with a relentless ability to reflect society’s faults and apathy in a unique and acerbic manner.

Whereas the band’s debut was very much a product of its time, something part-inspired by the political atmosphere of mid-2019 and a genuine moment of optimism when the prospect of a socialist government in the UK was on the cards, this new record uses tongue-in-cheek cynicism as a coping mechanism for the environment that we now find ourselves in. From one song to the next, Lines Redacted introduces a string of different narrators with each providing a different reflection on the Armageddon scenario that we are slowly entering, whether that’s bemoaning it or gleefully willing it along. 3D Routine presented a bed of scathing political jibes latching onto themes and decisions of the time. Lines Redacted mutates these ideas into something slightly more sinister whilst maintaining all of Hyndman’s razor-sharp wit that permeates the album.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0549/7765/8998/products/0517a0_68237927d4b6448a9fc5e8b56b25cfc6_mv2.jpg?v=1661894232
roger-taylor-outsider
Roger Taylor - Outsider

Album - New Release Date: 01/10/21 Blue Vinyl

Genre: Classic

Outsider is the latest solo album from rock legend Queen's Roger Taylor. With much of Outsider recorded during lockdown, this new album finds Taylor in reflective mood. Across the record he conveys a palpable sense of seclusion, concerns over the passing of time, and tellingly, dedicates it “to all the outsiders, those who feel left on the sidelines”. A highly personal project, Outsider’s instrumentation is almost entirely performed by Taylor, with his largely restrained vocals matching the album’s contemplative ambience. But Taylor does cut loose along the way with a foray into some hard-riffing blues-rock as well as an adrenalin charged big surprise retread of a classic 1965 novelty song, which is exactly the fun on earth we need in these challenging times.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0549/7765/8998/products/8a9a67_cb196b8c367145c28c9da82c081a226c_mv2.png?v=1661894724
smoke-bellow-open-for-business
Smoke Bellow - Open For Business

Album. The album title itself is a cheeky reference to Maryland governor Larry Hogan's less than inspired motto "we're open for business". Half of the songs were written in a room together and the second half via email (for obvious reasons). At the time they were listening to a lot of post punk and were struck with the partnership of drums and bass as propulsive instruments. The band’s rhythm-heavy sound contains echoes of UK post-punk titans such as PiL and A Certain Ratio mixed with the classic Bristol Post punk sound circa 79-81.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0549/7765/8998/products/0517a0_cceb2baf346b4aba9216139e1c4852ff_mv2.jpg?v=1661898585
new-order-movement
New Order - Movement

Album - Release Date: 19/09/25 - Black Vinyl

Alternative: New Wave/Post Punk

This is New Order's debut (from 1981) in name only, with the ghost of Ian Curtis still hanging heavily over his grieving Joy Division bandmates. A subsequent session, again in New York with Thorne, and featuring David Johansen of the New York Dolls, resulted in 'Perfect', yet both sessions, and the deal with London Records, were subsequently scrapped as The The switched to CBS Records and decided to start the album afresh. Work on the album was reconvened at John Foxx's Garden Studios in the then pre-gentrified Shoreditch area of London with Matt co-producing with Paul Hardiman - the album was subsequently mixed at Martin Rushent's Genetic Sound studio. Featuring a host of talented musicians, including JG Thirwell (aka Foetus, Manorexia and Steroid Maximus), Zeke Manyika (Orange Juice), electronic DIY pioneer Thomas Leer and Jools Holland, Johnson set out with a clear vision in mind - to produce an album that felt cinematic; a record of width, depth and texture and one which avoided the mundane line-up of two guitars, bass and drums. The aesthetic of The The was also something Johnson was very conscious of, assembling a supportive and talented team of creative individuals to help him refine his vision - his then girlfriend Fiona Skinner designed the type-face of the unique and enduring logo and his brother Andrew, working under the moniker Andy Dog, created the album artwork, a painting of one of Fela Kuti's wives.

Soul Mining is very much of its time, with the anti-thatcher rally cries and drum machines that were lifted from the Human League's studio. at the same time, it's like absolutely nothing else from 1983. There was a day a few years ago, sun shining in full Springtime splendor, when James heard something while waiting for a coffee down the street from the office. It sounded simple yet deceptively complex: a dance track, but one where the one - that anchoring first beat in a measure - could be heard a thousand different ways. Frustrated and interested, he Shazamd the song, playing at the shop from an episode of Zakia’s Questing show on NTS, and brought it back to the office, where we all listened to it about fifty times. (The song was “Friends,” from Mermaid Chunky’s VEST EP, released in 2020. It led to an invitation to open for LCD at Brixton Academy in 2022. The result is an artistic statement of purpose: a mature, intricate, contemplative work that conjures the romantic thrill of a gothic novel.

For Melancholy Brunettes follows a transformative period in Zauner’s life during which her 2x Grammy nominated breakthrough album Jubilee and her bestselling memoir Crying In H Mart catapulted her into the cultural mainstream, delivering on her deepest artistic ambitions. Reflecting on that success, Zauner came to appreciate the irony of desire, which so often commingles bliss and doom. “I felt seduced by getting what I always wanted,” she says. “I was flying too close to the sun, and I realized if I kept going I was going to die.” The plight of Icarus and other such condemned ones lends For Melancholy Brunettes its most persistent theme, the perils of desire. Like light dispersed, its spectral parts take the album’s characters through cycles of temptation, transgression and retribution. On “Orlando in Love” — a riff on John Cheever’s riff on Orlando Innamorato, an unfinished epic made up of 68 ½ cantos by the Renaissance poet Matteo Maria Boiardo — the hero is a well meaning poet who parks his Winnebago by the sea and falls victim to a siren’s call, his 69th canto (even in the lofty realm of classical myth Zauner has a soft spot for innuendo). “Honey Water” plumbs the quiet rage of a woman married to an unfaithful man, watching him cede again and again to lust like a base insect perpetuating its own demise.

Sadness is indeed the dominant emotional key of this record, but it is sadness of a rarified form: the pensive, prescient sadness of melancholy, in which the recognition of life’s essentially tragic character occurs with sensitivity to its fleeting beauty. Zauner finds space enough inside it for glimmers of hope. They are the consolations of mortals that poets before her have called out to and that poets after will continue to rediscover: love and labor, and though they run like tonic resolutions through the record’s many episodes, they sound most saliently on its final song, “Magic Mountain,” an engagement with Thomas Mann’s famous novel of the same name. For her, making any work feels like scaling a mountain, but from the perch of For Melancholy Brunettes, she surveys the future.

Album - Release Date: 18/06/20 - Black Vinyl

Genre: New Wave/Post Punk

180 Gram vinyl. electronic acts through constant touring and an unbeatable live show that’s cemented their status as true left-of-center innovators in their class. And the Tottenham-hailing trio is just getting started: with a new EP it finds Benji Bouton, Kevin Toublant, and Matt Kelly reinventing their own sound and reflecting the chaos of the world around them, it’s about to be a mad, mad, mad year for anyone who crosses their path—and all the better, too.

MADMADMAD emerged in 2017 out of impromptu late night jam sessions in a North London flat-turn-studio. The result of those DIY excursions was a self-released white-label EP that sold like hotcakes and generated an instant level of buzz for the group along with their energetic performances around the UK—a live presence that led to MADMADMAD opening for electronic pop auteur Róisín Murphy in 2022 and eventually becoming her backing band.

Across three full-lengths albums, the trio have showcased a beguiling and constantly shapeshifting sound inspired by Black Devil Disco Club and Parliament-Funkadelic’s otherworldly looseness, as well as the early 2000’s electro and the rough-and-ready dance-punk sonics of New York City circa the late 1970s and early 1980s—think Liquid Liquid, ESG, and James Chance and the Contortions with a thoroughly modern coat of paint lovingly splattered atop the framework those bands established. “The New York scene has definitely been a strong influence for us,” the band explain. “It buzzes in all directions, and it’s pretty punk-y on every side of the spectrum.”

Their latest album, the krautrock-tastic Behavioural Sink Delirium from 2023, paired MADMADMAD with producer Eddie Stevens (Zero 7, Moloko, Róisín Murphy) and—in true spirit to their origins—was recorded in 10 days during the COVID-19 pandemic and fashioned out of over 30 hours of improv sessions. “Everything was going to shambles, which made for a really chaotic album,” Benji recalls, describing the record as “very experimental”—which quite literally applies to the study that the album borrows its title from.

“Scientist John B. Calhoun did this experiment, called Universe 25, where he created a paradise for mice - a community where they’d have everything they needed to thrive,” he explains. “There was a tipping point where it became absolutely chaotic. The mice began getting depressed, cannibalism started, and the fertility rate went down. It felt like what was happening with western society. We’re offered more than we need, and yet some stuff seems to go not quite right.“

And the trio’s latest EP finds MADMADMAD taking another left turn in their fascinating discography, diving deep into the sounds of mutant disco and early electronic music to great effect. “We wanted to go back to our dancier roots,” Matt states. “We strayed away from the chaos of the last album and were looking to embrace simplicity; bringing it back to the essence of just bass and drums. We wanted to embrace a pared-down version of what we’ve been doing these past few years.”

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0549/7765/8998/files/unnamed_dee8f507-889e-4831-b6fd-b21777e7c274.jpg?v=1755343026
new-order-low-life
New Order - Low-Life

Album - Release Date: 19/09/25 - Black Vinyl

Genre: New Wave/Post Punk

With the 1985 release of Low-Life, New Order put forth their most commercially accessible effort to date. While some of the dark-wave drippings of their Joy Division roots are evident, high energy progressions, which would carry them for years to come, began to emerge here. Hits like 'Perfect Kiss' and 'Sub-Culture,' with their synth hooks, club-stomping accents, and visceral lyrics, helped bridge the gap for growing synth-pop audiences who bolstered their success. Other refined techniques on the album became standard new order conventions: sweeping analogue rolls, live and sequenced drum percussion, tight bass melodies, and edgy guitar leads. Sustained by a peerless level of emotional involvement, the vocals and lyrics further entice the listener with the obliquely nuanced style of Bernard Sumner. Standing the test of time, this release is a must-have in order to understand the origins of introspective pop-wave culture.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0549/7765/8998/files/download_4bebe175-6ecd-471b-bdd2-bcd338db7888.jpg?v=1757978654
johnny-thunders-que-sera-sera-resurrected
Johnny Thunders - Que Sera Sera - Resurrected

PRE ORDER - Album - Release Date: 24/10/25

Genre: New Wave/Post Punk

35th anniversary remake edition of the 1985 studio album.
