Alastair Clark - On The Record

The Vinyl Whistle is proud to present 'Alastair Clark: On The Record' as part of his Record Store Comedy Tour.

After almost a decade of shifting vinyl in an independent record shop, and even longer making people laugh on stage, Alastair Clark’s twin worlds of comedy and record shops collide in a passionate, hilarious and moving tale, as he examines the stark reality of living your dreams.

A show that waxes lyrical about crate digging, needle dropping and arguing with children about Fred Durst.

Alastair worked in one of Liverpool’s most successful independent record shops. What started as two blokes selling second-hand records out of a basement became a thriving
business, welcoming hundreds of customers a month.

In On The Record he tells how he fell into – and ultimately decided to walk away from – his life in vinyl.

Alastair was often encouraged by audiences and customers to write and perform a show about working in a record shop. It wasn’t until he left to pursue his dream of being a full time comic that he had the space, distance and perspective to bring On The Record to life.

“When you have had a job for such a long time it becomes a large part of your identity,” he said. “When I left the shop I had to say goodbye to a part of myself. I think that records are naturally sentimental objects and that sentimentality 100% comes across in this show.”

ALASTAIR CLARK On The Record will be touring across the UK, with an emphasis on performing in independent record shops, and working with shops to target the core audience for the show.

The show was performed at Slow Progress Records & Coffee in Edinburgh throughout the 2025 Fringe, where it found a natural home amongst the stacks.
